Boston, Massachusetts-based, Ironwood Investment Management was founded in 1997 with the deliberate purpose of establishing an investment firm where personal values are allowed to be expressed in perfect alignment with the investments made in our professional work. We are 100% employee-owned and our own capital is managed alongside our clients in every strategy we manage.

Our lineage in small cap investing predates the founding of Ironwood by 20 years. We focus on small caps because that is where we believe we can most reliably find and capture value for ourselves and our clients over the long-term through our fundamental research and active portfolio management.

We are truly long-term investors by nature. Our study of chemistry, environmental science, engineering, geology, history, and psychology is as important to our views of investment risk, opportunity, and time horizon as is our advanced work in finance, accounting, and economics.

Looking beyond short-termism requires conviction and commitment to the values we hold, the decisions we make and the actions we take. Much like the Ironwood tree, which thrives in unforgiving environments, our strong roots and imperviousness to the market psychology of the moment enables us to stay focused on the factors we can control and the dynamics of our portfolio companies.

In all facets of our lives and business, we pursue enduring growth – growth that attains permanence through compounding the benefits of hard work, sound judgement, and patience. Growth for its own sake is not enough and often hollow. We choose to apply our expertise and energy selecting and supporting companies that are ethically managed and sustainably operated that contribute to the enduring growth of the world, its environment and all its inhabitants.

Hundreds of investment firms have come and gone since the founding of Ironwood. As with the Ironwood tree, we are hearty and even as a small firm strive to be of use to both industry and nature. While 23 years is a blip compared to the 1,000 years an Ironwood tree may live, we are proud of our history thus far creating value for our clients and we are every bit as passionate in our pursuit of enduring growth as we were in 1997.
